FIRST POST!!!!!111one
I've probably had an account on LJ for something like two years, but I've never actually bothered writing anything here. And right now, I'm not sure what I should write. I suppose introducing myself might be a start - my name's Marianne, I'm 24, English, and a very geeky girl. I've been programming computers since I was about 8 years old, and I'm currently learning more useful languages than BASIC - specifically C and Objective-C. I use Linux, BSD, and/or OS X, and I avoid Windows like the evil plague it is. I've also always loved science, had a wide range of musical tastes (and even make music myself on occasion), and I'm very spiritual in a nature loving, strange paganish sense.
Currently, I'm pretty much exhausted, from going up north for the funeral of a close friend. Claire was absolutely lovely, one of the nicest, friendliest, most caring people I've ever met, and I doubt I'll ever find someone like her again. She was only 32 when she died, of heart failure - she'd had a heart condition for many years that made life hard for her but even so she was always optimistic, even though an early death would be inevitable for her. And she's left a whole load of people mourning. Because of that, the IRC client I was planning to write will be written still, dedicated to her and to Sadie, her beloved dog, who died a few months before Claire did. It'll still be one of those free bits of software that asks for optional donations, but now 20% of any such donations will go to animal charities, because Claire loved animals.
In other news, I need coffee. Badly. So I think I might go get some. I also want a cigarette, even though I plan to quit once my life is just a little bit less stress filled, which hopefully will be soon. I may or may not continue writing in this thing, this may be the only post I ever make or I may start religiously describing the tiny, mostly boring details of my life every day. I can't see why anyone would bother reading this thing, so it doesn't really matter :) And remember, one of "while(1) {drink(coffee);}" or "while(1) {drink(tea);}" must be obeyed to keep the caffeine variable high enough. Otherwise, the universe will explode. Byebyes!
